American History X-
in this scene they are sitting around dinner discussing the rodney king case in wich 4 police officers were charged for violent conduct on a black man, derek (ed noeton) states that he believes they did the right thing, whereas his mums boyfriend who happens to be jewish sticks up for rodney king....what happens next >>>>

Romper Stomper-

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ReUw7A7FeC4&feature=related

Homer Simpson
one of the most famous cartoon characters of all time dressed up like a skinhead, donning the classic fred perry shirt aswell as the cross tattoo and skinhead written on his forehead....
are this images mocking the thuggish skinhead culture or are they promoting them by filling youths with images of this type of culture?

ED NORTON
this is a still taken form the film American History X.
therefore this is a american take on what a skinhead would look like, the swastika on the chest, right above where the heqart would be symbolises that nazi beliefs are in his heart... ths barbed wire around the arms depicts that he is tough and can take pain, these are all signs that usual skinheads have......
the most important part of this image is the actual skinhead itself

Areas to explore:

1. Dates of films
2. The social and political context in which they were made - why did Tony Kaye want to produce American History X at that point in History? Look at interviews with Tony Kaye - what does he say? Same for Geoffrey Wright, Alan Clarke 1983 - what was the climate for making these movies at these points in cinematic history.
3. Research interviews with directors; cast and social and political information on the eras and countries being explored.

The man with the plan

Barack Obama

The other day i googled Barack Obama and on the first search page information on the klu klux klan came up. As the first black president of United States he is obviously going to come up against racist oppositions.... he has already had death threats and his security has been improved for himself and his family. His moto is 'CHANGE' and that is something that is going to come true, he plans to bring all soldiers out of iraq... this is going to gain him a lot more supporters.
But unfairly he is going to be targeted because of the colour of his skin... it has been over a 100 years since slavery was abolished but still there are those who find it hard to believe that change is a good thing, because there will always be simple minded people who are scared of change.
